City and Rio Seco to Work Together on Field Improvements

Ball fields used by the school and a local little league will get needed upgrades.

Improvements to the sports field at and were approved at last week's City Council meeting.

The and the have agreed on a memorandum of understanding appropriating $270,000 to the project. This will allow for landscaping upgrades, a new picnic area, new turf, new outfield fences and more.

"With recent improvements to the Town Center Community Park and the upgrading of Town Center Community Park West, users of the Rio Seco fields approached the city about upgrading their facilities, said of the city’s Community Services Department. Although the ballfields are located on Santee School District property, the city, through its Joint Use Agreement with the school district, has been helping to maintain the fields."

, which uses the fields being upgraded, sent a letter of thanks to the for approving the improvements.

"We understand that in the current economic climate that it is extremely difficult to spend money where some may not see the value added. We are extremely grateful that the City of Santee can see that Little League Baseball is a cause worth supporting."
