State education officials on Wednesday released Academic Performance Index (API) and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) data which is used to measure compliance with the federal No Child Left Behind education standards. ()

The data shows higher student performance on tests countwide in San Diego, but not enough to escape federal labels for struggling schools.
• The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose Thursday for the 12th time in 13 days, increasing 2.7 cents to $3.873, the highest since June 22. The average price is 13.4 cents higher than one week ago, 5.6 cents more than one month ago and 81.3 cents above what it was at this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
