At Tuesday's Santee School Board meeting Dr. Cathy Pierce was named as the new superintendent of the Santee School District.
“The Board is thrilled to have found such a highly qualified educator as Dr. Pierce to assume the leadership role of the District upon Dr. Shaw’s retirement,” said School Board President Dan Bartholomew.
Dr. Pierce currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services in Ramona Unified School District. With 30 years in education, Dr. Pierce brings a wide range of educational experiences and expertise to the Santee School District. Her previous positions include having worked as Director of Assessment and Categorical Programs, Secondary Mathematics Coordinator for the San Diego County Office of Education, site administrator for San Diego City Schools, and as a middle school and high school mathematics and science teacher.
Pierce has a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Management from Alliant International University and her dissertation research was used throughout the state to help improve student performance on the mathematics portion of the CAHSEE. She has a proven record of increasing student achievement and attaining both awards and recognition for student learning programs. Dr.
Pierce is known for her vision of 21st Century Learning, including integrating technology and transitioning to the Common Core State Standards.
In 2010, the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) selected Dr. Pierce as Curriculum and Instruction Administrator of the Year. Her belief in developing strong community and collaborative partnerships also earned her a Community Partner Award last year.
“I am honored to have been selected as the new superintendent and look forward to joining such a stellar school district and supportive community. I am eager to get to know staff, students, and the community and work with the Governing Board as we advance student learning,” Pierce said.
Dr. Pierce will begin her new assignment as superintendent on November 1, 2012.
