Grossmont College English Professor Honored With Statewide Award

Lisa Ledri-Aguilar, an associate professor of English at Grossmont College, has been honored with a statewide award from the California Association for Teachers of English (CATE), a non-profit organization promoting communication, collaboration, and educational knowledge among all responsible for teaching English and the language arts. The award is considered one of the highest awards granted to English professors and teachers in California.

Ledri-Aguilar was recommended for the award by peers and students at Grossmont College and was nominated by the Greater San Diego Council of Teachers of English (GSDCTE), a professional group that she currently serves as 2012-2013 president. She received a 2012 CATE Classroom Excellence Award in the College Division for her work in teaching remedial reading and writing courses that helps first-year college students succeed with college-level assignments. The award honors classroom teachers who exemplify the best teaching practices.

Ledri-Aguilar began teaching at Grossmont College as an adjunct instructor in 1994, and joined as a full-time English instructor in January 2005. She also has taught at Point Loma Nazarene University, San Diego City College, Mesa College and Christian Heritage College. In addition to entry-level English classes, she has taught upper division English composition and reading courses, including “Women in Literature,” “British Literature” and “Bible as Literature.”

At Grossmont College, she has served on the Academic Senate, a representative group for faculty members, as well as several committees, including Student Services Program Review, Project Success, Facilities Committee, Reading Committee and various English department committees. Her work has included published papers on a variety of topics, including “Love and Knowledge: The Keys to Being All That We Are Intended to Be” in a journal published by the C.S. Lewis Foundation,” and a speech on “The Plight of French Protestants and Their Path To Transform Culture Worldwide” presented at Robinson College at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. She has presented papers at conferences held at both Oxford and Cambridge.

She has served on the boards and committees with GSDCTE and CATE, and with Lamb’s Players Theatre for seven years, including as president in 2010.
