Red Rover Injury Case Settled for $15,000 With Santee School District

A seventh grade Carlton Oaks student was injured in a game of Red Rover- a banned game at district schools.

Your father played it. Your grandfather played it. And the Santee School District paid a $15,000 settlement to a child who was injured playing the banned schoolyard game.

A seventh grade Carlton Oaks student injured in a game of Red Rover in 2011 settled with the district in July to cover medical expenses, lawyer fees and a remaining $9,000 to be held in a bank account until he turns 18, according to court documents.

The settlement came after a lawsuit was brought against the district by the child's guardian concerning fractures to his leg sustained during a game of Red Rover during P.E. class. A group of students fell down when one student tried to crash through the linked arms of two other kids.

According to court records, the injured student still has intermittent pain in his ankle after sports activities and it is unknown if his condition is permanent.

An interesting fact to come out of this case- if you play Red Rover in the Santee School District, you’re violating district rules.

COMMENT: Should Red Rover be a banned game at school? Should the district have to pay for the student's injuries?
