Rio Seco School Receives $5,000 Grant from Barona Tribe

The elementary school plans to use the funds on technology and books for students.

The Band of Mission Indians presented a $5,000 education grant to in Santee on Wednesday.

Rio Seco plans on using the funds to purchase 13 sets of learn-to-read books, a mini Dell computer and an Ncomputing kit, which allows classrooms to maximize their computer access within a tight budget.

“With the $5,000 grant, we hope that Rio Seco Elementary School’s learning environment improves and engages the students,” said Chairman Romero.  “We understand how crucial it is to have the latest technologies available for use in classrooms today.”

This grant is part of the Barona Education Grant Program, which has handed out more than $1.5 million to 300 schools statewide since 2006.

According to the Barona press release, "other California schools can apply for educational grants from the tribe to purchase much-needed supplies and materials that promote academic improvement. Applications can be downloaded at http://barona-nsn.gov/education."
