River as a Classroom: Santee Encourages Caring for Local Natural Bounty

A Rio Seco class learns about the San Diego River after a day of cleanup along the riverbed.

Two recent posts at the City of Santee Blog, the Santee Review, are about the city's recent events caring for raging heart of Santee, the San Diego River, and teaching the next generation to do the same.

A fourth grade class of Rio Seco School students took a field trip to Mast Park Tuesday to learn about the river ecology from Shannon Quigley of the San Diego River Park Foundation, with help from some city employees and of course their teacher, Heather Glanz . Read more here

Over the weekend volunteers of all ages were out in full force to clean up the San Diego River during this year's Coastal Cleanup Day. After five years of these clean ups, the river is looking better than ever! Read more here
