Santee Kiwanis and School District Honor Teachers for Junior Olympics

By Daniel Bartholomew

The Kiwanis Club of Santee has sponsored the Junior Olympics for over 30 years. Each year, on the first Saturday in June, one of the local high schools is inundated with students from Santee School District who, with the help of their classroom teachers, have practiced to compete in a variety of track and field events. The Junior Olympics is open for all students in grades 4 - 8.

The Junior Olympics would not be successful without the support of the Santee School District's classroom teachers, who use P.E. time and recess for practice and attend the Saturday event to support their students. The Grossmont Union School District, through the Santana High track and field program, provide the crucial facilities and coordination that bring the entire event together.

At the October 1st regular meeting of the Santee School Board,  Kiwanis and School Board members recognized following teachers who supported this year's event: Kristen Eveland, Cathy Tolnay, Bruce Jennings, Chris Stanley, Katie Fossing, Robynn Bennet, Angela Panfili, Jennifer Johnson, Lori Meaux, Luke Towne, Helen Rosati, Jane Motler, Charles Applegate, Susan Smith, Cindi Schulze, Marc Robbins, Kelly Eveland, Barb DeBarrows, and John Bobof.

Kiwanis would like to thank the following community/business partners who provided sponsorship in the form of either time, material, facilities, or funding: Santee Lakes and Preserve, Walgreens, Ronn Hall Insurance, NiteRider Technical Lighting, Sharp Business Systems, the Grossmont Union School District and the Santee School District.
