Santee District will be closed Thursday.

The district posted the following notice on it's website on Wednesday evening:

All schools in Santee School District will be closed tomorrow (Thursday, May 15th) due to the pending fire danger. All districts in our surrounding communities will be closing also. These school closings have been designed to exercise an abundance of caution during this horrific fire threatening weather.

If you have an emergency need for child care tomorrow, please report to your child’s school site and you will be given directions. We will have staff available for emergency needs only.

We will monitor fire and weather conditions closely all day tomorrow to determine if schools will remain closed on Friday. Please check Santee School District Facebook page or back on the District website for updates.

I would hope you are kidding. but if you are not this is a safety issue as temps could break more records at over 100 degrees. what if a fire breaks out in other locations and you have to evacuate? you would have parents trying to get their kids and then the roads would be blocked even worse. schools in show country get days off why not for weather?

No not kidding it's been burning here every summer for 1000s of years. they didn't close for weather they closed specifically for fire danger! how many schools are in danger of a brush fire?? It gets over 100 here quite often! it is really a desert here deal with it.
