Navy Veteran to Open Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream in Santee

The location hasn't been finalized, but it's slated to open in early 2014.

A Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream franchise is slated to open in Santee in early 2014, according to a report by the San Diego Business Journal.

No location has been finalized for the Santee shop.

The ice cream parlor would be the third Baskin-Robbins store opened by Paul Martinez, who also owns the El Cajon (328 N. Second St.) and Bonita franchises.

Baskin-Robbins said in a statement that it was waiving the "20-year initial franchise fee and reducing certain royalty rates" for military veterans that sign franchise agreements this year. Martinez, a retired U.S. Navy veteran, is taking advantage of that program.

The ice cream parlor would join Cold Stone Creamery, Dairy Queen and multiple frozen yogurt shops among Santee's choices for cold sweet treats.

There are currently 24 Baskin-Robbins in San Diego County.
