Beer, dogs and veterans in Santee- what more could you ask for in a fundraiser event? A portion of the proceeds went to support a nonprofit run by a military couple in Santee.

Butcher's Brewing invited dogs and their owners to their brewery and tasting room on Prospect Avenue Friday for beer, a wood-fired pizza truck and live music with a chunk of the proceeds going to a locally operated nonprofit aimed at making life easier for deployed military and their pets.

Dogs on Deployment is a national non-profit which provides an online network for military members to search for volunteers willing to board their pets during their service commitments. The organization was founded by a dual-military husband and wife from Santee.

Butcher's Brewing is a dog-friendly brewery with over 10 local, craft-beers on tap. Food was provided by Dang Brother Pizza, a popular veteran-owned wood-fired pizza truck. Butcher's Brewing donated $1 a pint and Dang Brother Pizza donated $1 a pizza to Dogs on Deployment. The money raised from this fundraiser went directly to helping military and veteran pet owners.

Dogs on Deployment promotes "responsible, life-long pet ownership by military pet owners by advocating for military pet owner rights, providing educational resources and granting financial assistance for military pet owners during times of emergency."

John and the Time Traveling Bicycle played live music during the event and the girls from Pinups for Patriots classed up the joint and sold calendars, with funds going to various military charities. Their mission is to "bring back the patriotism of the WWII era while supporting our military veterans and their communities."
