Inexpensive Ways to Eat Healthy

Ways to save money while still eating healthy.

Eating healthy can be expensive and it’s usually why some revert back to unhealthier alternatives. So, here is a list of ways to save money and still eat healthy.

-          - you can buy directly from the farm and cut out the middle man. This is also a great way to help the community and buy locally grown produce. Santee’s Farmer’s Market is on Wednesdays from 3-7pm.

-          - there will be an additional cost up front in buying the seeds or plants to grow the vegetables, but once established, you will have organic vegetables and fruits to eat. And you can just go into your backyard to pick what you need for dinner. It will save time from going to the store.

-          Whole Produce- buying whole produce is less expensive than getting it already chopped up. When you get home, wash and chop the vegetables immediately and they will then be prepared for when you need them.

-          Eat beans- they are not expensive and are filling. Buying them dried will also save you money and is easily stored and have a long shelf life.

-          - buying food in bulk that you can divide and freeze is usually less expensive than buying multiple packages at the store.

-          Coupons- don’t forget to use coupons when you can. Every week in the mail, you get circulars for multiple stores that tell you what is on sale that week. Sprouts has Double Ad Wednesdays where items from the previous circular and new items for the current circular, are all on sale.

So plan your meals ahead and only buy what you need for those meals. The extras that get thrown in your cart can add up. Stick to your list and save money.
