My Health & Hair Matter

Network for a Healthy California, African American Campaign (Network) and Meals for Hunger encourage African American women to eat healthy and participate in more physical activity.

My Health & Hair Matter is a FREE event taking place this Saturday, June 2nd, from 11:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M. at Mae's Beauty Salon located at 1756 Euclid Ave, San Diego.  This event is part of a statewide effort to empower African American women to make healthy, active living a priority.  Free to the public, My Hair & Health Matter will provide women with ideas for maintaining hair styles while engaging in daily physical activity. Participants will also get tips for choosing healthier eating habits to help combat obesity and other chronic diseases that disproportionately affect the African-American community.

Activities will include:
-Local stylists demonstrating hair styles and providing tips for maintaining styles while being physically active   
-Network staff providing participants with healthy recipes from its Soulful Recipes cookbook 
-Free food giveaway provided by Meals for Hunger
-Zumba demonstrations and classes
-Free massages
-Booths providing free health information     
-Live music featuring local bands
