According to the City of Santee website, the morning starts "with a trolley ride to Broadway Pier and catching the ferry to Coronado Ferry Landing. Located on the beautiful island of Coronado and home of a collection of charming shops, art galleries, fine dining and family restaurants. You can also bring your lunch and sit on the beach."
You have to get your own ride to the Gillespie Field Trolley Station, and once you're at the ferry landing, you're on you're own for lunch. The trolley fare is $2.50 and the ferry costs $8.50.
Activities at the pier include walking, bicycling and enjoying the seaside view.

The city describes this new program as something "for adventurous older adults who like to explore interesting places in San Diego County."
