Santana Moves to 4-0 with Rout of Central; West Hills Falls to Kearny

Kyle Gasner throws for four TDs for the Sultans in 56-6 win; Wolf Pack leads at break but can't stop Komets in second half.

And this is how you treat a friend? Of course, off the field Santana’s Dave Gross and his former assistant Michael Hobbs are just that—friends. On the field it’s a different story.

Seven Sultans contributed to the scoring as Santana smeared visiting El Centro Central 56-6 in a non-league game Friday night at Santee Community Stadium.

Quarterback Kyle Gasner delivered four scoring passes and totaled 171 yards by completing six of just eight pass attempts in the rout. Landon Lozoya caught three passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns.

Garrett Hath and TD Gross also caught scoring passes from Gasner. James Parr contributed to the scoring with a 20-yard interception return.

Spencer Love also scored on runs of 11 yards and 1 yard, helping the Sultans (4-0) take a 49-0 halftime lead. He finished with 89 yards on nine carries, which was second to Jareth Raymond, who rolled up 95 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries.

“I really don’t know how to explain it,” the 6-foot-3, 170-pound Lozoya told EastCountySports.com. “I pretty much do the same move every time. I just caught the ball, beat my guy, broke a tackle and got some great blocks down the sideline to spring me loose.”

On the defensive side, Kevin Brady recorded 11 tackles and a sack, while Jason Patterson raised his East County-leading sack total to 8.5 with one quarterback mugging against the Spartans. Patterson also had eight tackles.

Kearny 34, West Hills 14

Rebuilding a football program is no small task no matter who the head coach is.

West Hills coach Tay Sneddon is familiar with the ups and downs that go with that process. He realizes there can be more lows than highs, and Friday’s game against Kearny was a perfect example as the Pack dropped to 0-3.

Ryan Williams scored on touchdowns of 24 and 4 yards to give West Hills a 14-12 halftime lead. The second half was a completely different story as Kearny rolled to a 22-0 advantage in the final two quarters.

“After holding our own in the first two quarters, they completely dominated us in the second half,” Sneddon said.

Williams finished with 55 yards rushing and West Hills quarterback Rashaan Miller passed for 166 yards but was burned by three interceptions.
