Santana National Little League All-Stars on a Roll

Homers by Christian Mendez and Tristen Salinas fuel an 8-4 victory over Lakeside American as double-elimination play begins.

The Santana National Little League 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars continued on a roll with a win Tuesday evening in their first game in double-elimination bracket play.

Christian Mendez and Tristen Salinas powered home runs as the SNLL squad downed Lakeside American Little League 8-4.

Santana National trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the third before Mendez put his team ahead to stay with a two-run shot for a 4-3 lead. Salinas provided some insurance with a solo home run to center in the fourth. Jerry Alesi followed with a double and Logan Linscott singled him home for a 6-3 SNLL lead.

After Lakeside American pulled within 6-4 in the fifth, the Santana All-Stars resonded with two in the bottom of the inning. Emory Allen-Fox doubled and scored on another double by Colton Calvert,  who took third on the throw home and scored a few pitches later on a passed ball.

The next game for Santana National's 11/12 team, which swept its pool play games 13-0 and 15-0 late last month, is at 7 p.m. Friday against West Hills at the Cajon de Oro baseball fields at 3900 Conrad Drive in Spring Valley.

The 9- and 10-year-old SNLL team also won on Tuesday night, beating El Cajon National 7-3.  The 10- and 11-year-old Santana National team will play its second bracket game on Wednesday at the West Hills Little League fields against Singing Hills.
