Two Santana Teams Honored for Living Up To 'Scholars and Champions' Motto

Santana boys water polo and girls golf teams make the cut in the CIF San Diego honors for high grades.

Two Santana High School teams were among the top-achieving fall high school athletic teams honored by CIF San Diego this week for their high grades.

Santana boys water polo and girls golf teams achieved an averge GPA across the team of 3.61 and 3.51 respectively, with top scholars Griffin Rizzo (4.76), Casey Lenihan (3.8) and Emma Williams (3.8) earning special recognition.

These teams proved the Santana motto: "Scholars and Champions."

The Mission Federal Credit Union All Academic Teams honor the school teams in each sport and region with the highest, combined, unweighted grade point average. From each of those nearly 40 teams, Cymer honored the junior or senior team member with the highest, cumulative high school grade point average. A total of 670 male and female athletes comprise the 38 All Academic teams. The 38 Cymer Scholars have a cumulative high school grade point average of 4.33.

“These are great students and teams,” said CIF San Diego Section Commissioner Jerry Schniepp, “and we’re thrilled to have the support of Mission Fed and Cymer to honor them. High school athletes that also excel in the classroom are among the finest young people in this community. They deserve every bit of recognition we can provide.

The El Capitan High School field hockey team was also recognized with an average GPA of 3.19, and outstanding scholar Katie Davidson, with a 4.61 GPA.

“We congratulate and recognize Cymer Scholar Athletes for their commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the playing field,” said Ed Brown, president and chief operating officer at Cymer.

“We wish each and every award recipient continued success, and look forward to the leadership roles they will play in the years to come on and off the field.”

This year’s recognition honored five times as many teams as in the past. In prior years, one team per sport was selected for the entire San Diego Section.

I think the communities, Santee here, should band together and raise that money for schoolRead More supplies, instead of the teachers. I for one would throw in the first $100. I think between the residents and the local businesses we could raise the $10,000 to $15,000 that I am guessing would be needed. In Scripps Ranch, where both my kids attended school, the parents banded together and covered a HALF A MILLION shortfall in no time about 9 years ago during the cuts. And you don't have to have kids in school now to contribute. I don't anymore,BUT GOOD PUBLIC education with the right tools BENEFITS ALL AND THE FUTURE OF AMERICA MOST OF ALL. So I am first.

this is why the battlefield has changed temporarily from the political arena to the Energy Arena.Read More Co Gen Tricks and the usual suspects are making their big money bet on two inevitable facts that will force the hand of the CPUC and CEC to place a new gas power plant somewhere in the area. 1) the Electric Vehicle Mandate. 2) voltage support (power factor) needed by the industrial wind and solar farms in the desert. There is more to what meets the eye with the aggressive push by the usual suspects to cover our open spaces in the East County with these poorly sited RE projects. More wind and solar farms means more gas power plants. There is only one way to fight the destruction of our open spaces, and that is with roof top solar, conservation, energy efficiency and community owned energy districts. The fisrt thing that needs to be done is the City of Santee exempt residential scale PV installs from needing a building permit. Australia, Germany and the State of Vermont do not require a Building Permit to install PV.
