West Hills Blanked by Steele Canyon

Ryan Williams provides a bright spot for the 3-5 Wolf Pack with with 112 yards rushing.

West Hills High suffered its first shutout of the season, falling 42-0 at the hands of visiting Steele Canyon in Friday night's Grossmont Hills League game.

First-year Wolf Pack coach Jess Barragan realized his team was overmatched going in against No. 7-ranked Steele Canyon. Thus, he tried to work on the mental approach as much as the physical approach.

"I kept reminding our kids that we did take Steele Canyon into overtime during a passing league game last summer," Barragan said. "Yeah, sure, we lost. But I figured that would be a mental boost. That's what we do here at West Hills – we try to be positive."

But no matter what Barragan could do with his magic wand, it didn't matter as Steele Canyon scored 35 points in the middle two quarters and breezed to a lopsided victory.

Ryan Williams led the Wolf Pack (3-5, 0-3) with 112 rushing yards on 13 carries. Williams finished with 175 all-purpose running yards, which included four kickoff returns.
