West Hills Moves to Dark Side for First Win; Santana Still Unbeaten

The Pack hands Patrick Henry its first loss 45-21, while the Sultans move to 5-0 with a 34-0 win at San Ysidro.

It was an enjoyable evening of football Friday night for the two Santee-based high school teams and their fans, with West Hills posting its first win of the season, pounding previously unbeaten Patrick Henry 45-21, while Santana remained unbeaten with a 34-0 blanking of San Ysidro.

West Hills Sparkles on ‘All Black Night’

At West Hills, the students and fans wore black shirts and the players donned black jerseys to celebrate their first "All Black Night," a scheme cooked up by Wolf Pack coach Tay Sneddon to create unity and boost school and team spirit. Apparently it worked.

The Wolf Pack (1-3) raced to a 24-0 lead before the Patriots (3-1) could figure out what was happening. After Henry pulled within 24-21, quarterback Rashaan Miller scored from a yard out as West Hills began to pull away.

Miller also threw three touchdown passes, the first a 75-yard scoring play to Jarrod Klimcyzk. Stephan Salaz was his target on the other two TDs, from 19 and 49 yards out.

Runing back Eric Seaboch rushed for 100 yards and scored twice for the Pack, which visits El Capitan on Friday before starting league play the following week at Helix.

Sultans Use Big Second Quarter to Move to 5-0

Santana headed to the South Bay and was held to its lowest point total of the season yet produced enough points to make it look easy against the San Ysidro Cougars (2-3).

The Sultans' multifaceted scoring machine sputtered out of the goal line and came up empty in the first quarter. That didn't last much longer.

Led by quarterback Kyle Gasner, the Sultans erupted for 21 points in the second quarter and had plenty of breathing room by intermission.

Gasner delivered two touchdown passes to Landon Lozoya (19 and 7 yards) and another to Jeff Peterson (9 yards). Those three scored were sandwiched between rushing TDs by Tyler Weiss and Spencer Love (both 6 yards).

Interceptions by Wesley Green and Cody Connor helped the Sultans protect the shutout.

Santana plays its next two games at home, meeting Grande Prairie High of Alberta, Canada, on Friday before starting league play Oct. 14 against El Cajon Valley.
