Alexa Evans, one of the top student-athletes at , has signed a national letter of intent to compete collegiately at San Diego State University.
Evans, a 6-foot-1 honors student, is the school record holder and among the state's top performers in track and field throwing events after advancing to the CIF state championships last June.
"In high school, I found I had a talent for throwing the discus," said Evans. "After looking at several colleges, I knew SDSU was the perfect place to combine both of my passions. The major, the facility and the coaches are top-notch.
"I can’t wait to be an Aztec!"
Her best event is discus with a school standard of 148-4, set as a junior last season when she placed fifth at the state meet. The mark is currently fifth best in San Diego Section history.
Evans also eclipsed a Grossmont Conference meet record in the discus, snapping one of East County's longest-standing marks which was set in 1982.
In the shot put, her career best of 37-1 is third best in Wolf Pack annuals, just a foot shy of the school standard and again easily obtainable this spring.
Evans also holds a solid 4.10 grade point average in the classroom. She plans to major in television, film and new media production.
"I knew in junior high that I wanted to have a career in film, especially editing," she said.
