Groceries for Le$$: Thoughts from ‘The Grocery Gangsta’

I search out the supermarket sales, you save the $$$ NO COUPONS

  1.  I finally had the opportunity to taste that “fancy” Stone Cold ice cream.  I took the kids for a treat (meaning we had a gift card). Even for free it wasn’t worth it. What a waste of a paper cup! $3.00 for a scoop of dripping, tasteless slop?  C’mon, for the kind of money they are making, the least they could do is call Dolly Madison and buy a decent ice cream recipe and freeze the stuff before serving it. I anoint them the Starbucks of ice cream… overpriced and lousy!
  2.  I found this local kid who does carpet cleaning. He is an enterprising, hard-working student, looking for a way to make a buck. I appreciate that entrepreneurial spirit and I’m giving him a shot. He quoted me $150 for the entire house including the steps. I will definitely let you know next week if he does an excellent job.
  3. Forgive me if I don’t offer sale pricing for weird stuff like organic fruit or soy milk. I have no idea how to gauge a fair price for a white liquid squeezed from a bean and passed off as of all things…MILK! LOL! That makes me laugh.  Which reminds me; we went to a friend’s house a few weeks ago for dinner.  Our genial host, who is ordinarily a great cook, ran out of regular milk and made homemade mashed potatoes with soy milk instead. Why soy milk?  Why not Elmer’s glue or white tile caulk. Both white, both liquid, they are cheaper and could not have tasted any worse. Yes, I ate it and said “thank you it was delicious.”

On to the best sales for the week of August 17-24 2011
