Santee Deputies Arrest 13 in Curfew Sweep; Patrol for Social Host Violations

Deputies will be working in two man cars specifically to respond to Social Host violations in Santee.

The performed a and social host detail over two days on June 21 and 22, arresting a total of 13 juveniles for curfew violations and releasing them to their parents.

The sweep took place over Santee, Lakeside, and parts of El Cajon. In addition, two adults were arrested for being in possession of a controlled substance and being under the influence of a controlled substance. No Social Host violations occurred during the two day operation.

Under rules, there are serious consequences for parents who allow teens and their friends to consume alcohol in their homes. A social host does not have to be 21 years of age to be in violation of the law. The homeowner or property owner can be held liable for cost recovery. Social host violations carry a fine of $1,000 on the first offense. Second and subsequent violations carry a fine of $2,000 or up to 32 hours of community service or up to 6 months in jail. You may also be held liable for injuries sustained by third parties as a result of the minor guest’s negligence. A social host can also be liable for the cost of responding law enforcement services.

The Sheriff's Department said that with juveniles now out of school until late August, an increase in curfew violations occur, as do juvenile parties involving alcohol and drugs.

During this past year, the Santee has seen several deaths of juveniles due to drinking alcohol and using drugs while driving recklessly. 

These Sheriff's Department said the operations will continue through this weekend, and through the summer months at the Santee Station. Deputies will be working in two man cars specifically to respond to Social Host violations in the jurisdictions we serve throughout the county.
