QB Power Plant: CPUC & 1st Anniversary of Public Battle

3rd pitch -- Request CPUC to uphold their proposed decision on Feb 13th. 1st anniversary -- Post suggestions to grow public involvement in the QB battle!

The CPUC did not vote as expected on Jan 24th on Quail Brush-related agenda items.   According to Preserve Wild Santee:

"CPUC vote on dirty un-needed powerplants was rescheduled for the 3rd time - now February 13, 2013.   There may be a CPUC forum in San Diego prior to the vote.   If so, we will all need to be there."

More time to (click links below) email the CPUC, CEC, and Gov. Brown!

Jan 25th is the 1st year anniversary of the CEC "Public Informational Meeting" that sparked the public fight in defense of our community from corporate invaders, Cogentrix/Goldman Sachs (now Cogentrix/Carlyle Group) and SDGE.

Remember: If the CPUC holds an SD forum prior to their vote, we all need to be there.  Strength in numbers moved our fight forward during 2012.

Add your constructive comments, ideas and share your creative suggestions and commitments to ramp up community involvement in 2013 at this blog.

  • If you're a student that cares about the future and environment you'll inherit, can you spearhead spreading the word on campus and get your peers and your professors on board in this good fight!
  • Can you head up a "QB Watch", to promote email campaigns and attendance at public forums/meetings amongst our neighbors, your church group, children's school, sport groups, happy hour crowd, you-name-it?
  • Can you & friends make a highly visible banner and hike to good vantage points in Mission Trails or Cowles Mtn and unfurl it to make a statement of opposition to the power plant and defense of the park when you hike?
  • Can you be your own boss, stay updated at the links above, dive in & fight the power plant your way and show a few others how to, too?
  • Can you create an awesome video showing the uniqueness, beauty of MTRP & the contrasting corporate ugliness that proposes to destroy it?  Oh wait, Patty & Mark have done that. See them attached to this blog.
  • Can you write to the CEC providing your personal account or professional input that testifies your opposition to the power plant.  An example of a professional/personal letter is attached.  Here's the CEC link of all comments from the many faithful fighters:  http://www.energy.ca.gov/sitingcases/quailbrush/documents/others/comments/   Still, many more voices are needed.  Multiple comments are useful and allowed by the CEC.
  • Can you share info with your contacts & send links to encourage emailing the CPUC, CEC, Gov Brown & Facebook "Like" the organizations fighting!
  • Share you game/fight plan in the comments below, and "just do it!"  Ideas are for sharing.

We made great strides in 2012.  Let's gear up now to win in 2013!

I think the communities, Santee here, should band together and raise that money for schoolRead More supplies, instead of the teachers. I for one would throw in the first $100. I think between the residents and the local businesses we could raise the $10,000 to $15,000 that I am guessing would be needed. In Scripps Ranch, where both my kids attended school, the parents banded together and covered a HALF A MILLION shortfall in no time about 9 years ago during the cuts. And you don't have to have kids in school now to contribute. I don't anymore,BUT GOOD PUBLIC education with the right tools BENEFITS ALL AND THE FUTURE OF AMERICA MOST OF ALL. So I am first.

No drop down menus, just click the header links for more options. For story categories click newsRead More and look on the left hand column. I know the redesign will take a bit to get used to, but I really think it will be a better site for community engagement, and easier to use. Feel free to post your feedback to the redesign on the boards, I'll check it out and respond, but you might also send your feedback straight to Patch headquarters with this form- http://feedback.aol.com/rs/rs.php?sid=patch Engineers will be furiously tweeking the new site based on your suggestions.

this is why the battlefield has changed temporarily from the political arena to the Energy Arena.Read More Co Gen Tricks and the usual suspects are making their big money bet on two inevitable facts that will force the hand of the CPUC and CEC to place a new gas power plant somewhere in the area. 1) the Electric Vehicle Mandate. 2) voltage support (power factor) needed by the industrial wind and solar farms in the desert. There is more to what meets the eye with the aggressive push by the usual suspects to cover our open spaces in the East County with these poorly sited RE projects. More wind and solar farms means more gas power plants. There is only one way to fight the destruction of our open spaces, and that is with roof top solar, conservation, energy efficiency and community owned energy districts. The fisrt thing that needs to be done is the City of Santee exempt residential scale PV installs from needing a building permit. Australia, Germany and the State of Vermont do not require a Building Permit to install PV.
