It's Joe Spencer Day in San Diego County!

"Dedicated to the best ideals of public service," our own Joe Spencer is honored by the county for his many acts of community service.

Hot on the heels of being awarded the , Joe Spencer has received more recognition- this time there's a whole day named after him!

The County of San Diego issued a proclamation honoring for his "outstanding leadership, service and commitment to area residents," and declared March 26, 2012 as Joe Spencer Day throughout the county (see the full proclamation in the media box).

The proclamation relates numerous reasons for bestowing the honor:

  • by the Santee Chamber of Commerce
  • His campaign to make Santee parks smoke-free and support of the County's Building Better Health Initiative
  • He was instrumental in bringing the to Santee junior high schoolers
  • Dedicating time to the Santee School District as the District's Foundation Vice President and
  • Working with
  • Helping to from her burning vehicle and helping to evacuate the Lakeside Post Office in a hostage situation

As a regular , Joe does a lot to inform the community and can always be counted on to get a conversation started about an issue. I congratulate him for receiving this honor and his ability to follow through- because if Joe says he'll bring a topic to the School Board or City Council, you can count on him being there at the next meeting, speaking his mind.
