Johni Mae Van Winkle, Santee Library Volunteer, Dies at 65

She read to kids at Grandma Johni's Reading Corner each week.

San Diego resident Johni Mae Van Winkle passed away June 23 due to amyptrophic lateral scelerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease).

Born on a farm near Wardell, MI, she came with her family to Santa Maria, CA, when she was 11 years old.

Johni had careers in teaching and in the legal field. She volunteered at the , reading to kids at each week, and as a hospice volunteer.

The family asks that donations in her memory be made to the ALS Association - Greater San Diego Chapter.
