Community members gathered to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and fight back against cancer during at on Saturday and Sunday.
"The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Santee belongs to our community. We are the American Cancer Society in our community. We not only fundraise, but . We celebrate, we remember and we fight back as a community," said Dawn Gibbs, the face of Santee Relay for Life from its inception.

There were 635 participants and 28 teams involved in this year's event, according to the Santee Relay for Life website. Donations can still be made at the website.
Participants began walking around Hill Creek’s field at 10 a.m. on Saturday and continued walking until 10 a.m. Sunday to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

During the opening ceremony, Councilmembers and told of their dealings with cancer in their family and thanked the participants for raising awareness and funds to fight cancer.
