Santee Santas Betters Christmas for More Than 400 Local Kids

Hundreds of volunteers working with Santee Santas delivered food and toys to more than 220 local families in need earlier this week.

For 60 years, Santee Santas, a nonprofit organization, has provided food and toys to local families. Volunteers drop off a holiday meal, about two weeks of nonperishable food items, wrapped gifts for children or gift cards for teenagers, stocking stuffers, two books for every child and a board game for families that have applied to the program.

The food and toys were donated throughout the year at bins in local businesses and events such as Holiday Lighting and Taste of Santee, food drives at local schools and churches, and donated food by stores.

Santee Santas released this message:

"This year Santee Santas helped 222 families and over 400 children.

"Thanks to all our volunteers who helped with all the preparations this year (food sorting, toy wrapping, flower delivery, etc.) and especially the wonderful volunteers who helped with deliveries this year. A special thanks again to the on-duty Santee Firefighters who showed up en masse to help again this year. "
