Visit San Diego County's Thriving Wine Country this Weekend

Tour San Diego's thriving wine region, where dozens of wineries produce award-winning beverages.

San Diego's wine country is home to a growing number of wineries that make for an interesting and relaxing weekend driving tour.

The San Diego County Vintner's Association lists 39 wineries, many with tasting rooms open on Saturday and Sunday.

The vintner's association produces a handy map that you can print and take with you on your tour.

Most of the wineries are located around Ramona and Julian, but there are several in North County, central San Diego and East County.

A good place to start your tour is San Diego's oldest winery, the Bernardo Winery, which was founded in 1889.

Another well-known San Diego winery is Orfilia Vineyards & Winery, which dates to 1973.

Many of the wineries have restaurants, or picnic tables where you can relax and eat lunch between tastings. Dudley's Famous Bakery in Santa Ysabel is an excellent choice for sandwiches and other picnic food.
