Flag as Inappropriate

This is a huge 190-acre park and recreation area with a marina, lake, campground, playground and trails in the heart of Santee.

The seven lakes were originally built in 1961 and the entire complex has seen significant reenovations over the last five to 10 years.

Lakes Six and Seven are devoted to camping and were voted "The Best Campground in San Diego County" in San Diego's "Best 2007" poll. All campsites have access to WiFi, and RV sites have hook-ups for utilities, phone and cable.

Billed as "one of the best fishing spots in Southern California," twice yearly the lakes are stocked with catfish and trout and also feature bluegill, carp and bass. No Santee fishing license is needed; simply a daily permit for under $10.

Pedal boats, kayaks, canoes, or row boats are available for rent.

There are five different playground structures, and a Sprayground "water park" available for children under 13 when a $2 wristband is purchased. Lake Four features a playground with disabled access.

The day use vehicle fee is $3 on weekdays and $5 on weekends, but you can park on the street or at the free lot at the entrance and walk in for free.

Picnic tables, pavilions, the clubhouse and even whole lakes are available for reservation for large parties.

Leashed dogs are allowed at the campground, but not in the day use area of the lakes.

Santee Lakes also features an amphitheater and a Teen Center.
