The Yelp reviews don't lie. Landre's just wasn't able to execute and couldn't provide a better…Read More alternative to what the public wanted.
mike May 13, 2013 at 01:59 pm
I really try to support local businesses in Santee but Landre's made it awfully hard to do so. I…Read More went about 6 times, all with bad service, wrong/bad food, wrong beer, all at high prices. I kept going back like a battered woman. The last time I went it was a medium busy night, 3 girls waiting to seat us, sat down... 15 minutes later no drinks, etc offered so we left and went to Rubios.
All this crap about a bad location? People will travel, deal with small parking lots and more if the service, food and experience is worth it. Heck we used to drive all the way to Point Loma and wait in line for 45 minutes for Phil's (before we got spoiled :D )
Michael Duell May 12, 2013 at 05:48 pm
My family and I went to Landre’s about a half dozen times and we just never really received a…Read More quality eating experience we expected. Sometimes was good, but the service was terrible and vice versa. We kept giving them another try hoping they would have corrected the problem areas, but sadly, they never were able to get things on track. Looking back, Landre’s failure was due to poor execution in both food and service which are the only two areas that really matter in the food service industry. The opening of corporate franchise restaurants was only the final piece of the sad puzzle that ended this Landre’s. I hope Landre’s finds a new place – the Albertson’s shopping center could use a sports bar. I would love to give them another try.

Having H D Supply take up residence in Santee is a Great win for our community.
The added sales tax…Read More revenue will help make Santee one of the finest cities in San Diego,if not the finest.
When a windfall happens some like to spend more than they take in,so Our city leaders must refrain from spending money before it is realized and not rely on projections ten years out.
H D Supply is a very large group of companies and very profitable. So not to worry , just google the company.

Heres the cherry on the cake , have 270 employees working in the City of Santee having lunch at our…Read More local resturants, servicing there vehicles at our local automotive service centers and other things that help our local businesses and generate additional sales tax for our city. What a win win for all.

wow really, you have a strong opinion, please keep it to yourself
Tamie May 2, 2013 at 12:51 pm
No...not a liberal and I certainly have no right to impose my views on others. I respect all.…Read More BUT...what a lot of people fail to remember that the original ideal of Wal-Mart was to be an American company that prided itself on buying American and being a company that respected their employees. When Mr. Sam Walton died, his children have taken his ideals and cashed them in for inferior products and cut-rate food. There is no buy American anymore at Wal-Mart. They have brainwashed the public over years only to do a bait and switch on us all. There are other alternatives in Santee from Food 4 less, GTM, and the Farmers Market.
Steve Martell May 2, 2013 at 10:43 am
Tamie - maybe you don't want walmart, but a lot of us do. don't like it, don't shop there. I bet you…Read More are a liberal, as most liberals love to impose their views on others. maybe you have lots of money, so you can choose to shop where things are more expensive, but for us poor working slobs living in the era of Obama and his failed economy, we need to make our dollars stretch. so I say bring on the super center walmart, I cant wait!
ED Blitz April 25, 2013 at 08:00 pm
My name is Ed Blitz, and I am on the steering committee for ASAP, Advocates for Safe Airport…Read More Policies. We are a grassroots coalition from the communities of Fletcher Hills, Lakeside, and Santee.
I can guarantee that this study will simply expound on the economic benefits of an aerotropolis at Gillespie Field -- the light industry it will attract, the business development, the possibility of hotels and restaurants, and all of the jobs that will be created.
The study will say that it will be an economic engine for Santee and El Cajon. THAT IS PATENTLY FALSE.
I recently drove the perimeter of Gillespie Field. I found over 30 for lease or sale signs and I found more than 700,000 square feet available. Space that has been available for quite some time. Do we really need to build more?
I also found that there are two large churches, occupying many thousands of square feet along the perimeter of Gillespie. The reason the churches are there is because the space is cheap. Churches are tax exempt and employ very few people. So where’s the economic engine?
Why is there such interest in an aerotroplis? One reason and one reason only -- flight schools- the only real activity going on at Gillespie.
Hundreds of students are being trained, everyday and at all hours, to take off and land over our homes; homes which are located on very high terrain.
It is a waste of taxpayers' money and will be a huge imposition to the citizens living near Gillespie Field.

Jake, I think I had heard these were going to be high-end apartments. I doubt the council would want…Read More to stick low-income apartments into Town Center. In fact, the only reason why our council allows any low-income apartments, is because we're mandated to have a certain percentage by our state of California.
Mike Walker May 9, 2013 at 05:52 pm
Security didn't come to mind much for me, as all we have to do is look around Santee then compare it…Read More to other communities, the low crime rate in Santee is one of the main reasons we moved here, that and the open spaces on the West end. I look forward to the new entertainment complex and more progress like it, now I am off to get something different for lunch than the usual fare...ah, I think I'll try an in n out burger today.
Mayor Randy Voepel May 9, 2013 at 03:55 pm
Kathy, security is always job #1 in Santee. We have a Sheriff's substation at the Trolly and a new…Read More entertainment complex would be state of the art. Town center is well covered by camera/security as would be an entertainment complex. The complex would have two levels, Activities for Kids & families on the first floor and adult entertainment (nightclub, dancing etc.) on the second floor with security for the entire complex. This is not a done deal as of yet but we are working hard to bring a fabulous venue to our wonderful little slice of heaven called Santee. To those that have a negative outlook on Santee...Just look around you, we have come a long way in the last 20 years. To the 79% of voters that always vote for me thank you and SALUTE! Respectfully submitted.

Wait, wait, wait... this is Cogentrix's famous mantra! You can bet that Quail Brush requested a…Read More 12-month suspension in the AFC process so that they can regroup! This is a cat and mouse game to them and you can be certain that the Cogentrix lobbyist are very busy. Let's not forget last months closed-to-the-public meeting with power companies and other ‘stakeholders’ , i.e. CPUC, CEC, Cogentrix, SDG&E, CleanTech, and other industry and corporate stakeholders (excluding the public and the press).
Stephen Goldfarb April 12, 2013 at 01:51 am
The Quail Brush application for a suspension only allows the company to regroup and continue to push…Read More for installing the power plant in MSCP conserved land in East Elliott adjoining Mission Trails Park. Quail Brush created a conflict at the outset by selecting conserved land for its massive power plant, aside from issues whether a polluting gas-fired plant is an appropriate means to deliver peak electrical power. I believe the Energy Commission should rule without delay to prohibit the siting in East Elliott. The company could then put its effort to siting a plant in an appropriate industrially zoned area. The company would do itself a favor if it took this appproach on its own instead of persisting to despoil land intended to protect and conserve sensitive species and the environment.
Margie Logue April 12, 2013 at 12:22 am
I think Cogentrix just hopes we breathe a sigh of relief and forget about it. This time the CEC…Read More won't have to alert people living within 1,000 ft about plans to go ahead with it. That's who blew the whistle the first time. They're hoping to sneak one by us. Bet we end up with power outages this summer just to "show" us the need. After the Japan meltdown and the recent news about babies in California having thyroid problems due to radiation, I don't know why anyone would think of nuclear power as safe. There already is a storage battery that works for solar, just waiting for mass production to get the price down.
Sandy March 25, 2013 at 01:16 am
This is a big (temporary) victory for the Santee citizens who rallied together against a huge fossil…Read More fuel plant that would have eleven 70' smoke stacks at the western gateway to our community, and worse, all the while we would be breathing the added pollution. While we have a two-year reprieve via the CPUC's decision based on lack of current need for the plant, let's nail the last nail in the coffin FOR GOOD with continued mass opposition to the CA Energy Commission, the agency that is charged with finding appropriate locations for these plants. If you are glad that Santee MAY be spared the pollution, the fire hazard, the property-value decrease, and the bad morale from this project, then Save Mission Trails volunteers urges you to take a quick five moments to make it SO. The CEC is accepting letters for only a few more weeks. It's easy to send a letter today via www.savemissiontrails.org/email-activism. Every one who hasn't written a letter yet opposing this plant can still do so! Way-to-go Santee!!

LOL, string a couple of these kits together and you can power the critical loads in your house,…Read More refrigerator, entertainment center, general lighting, modems and a laptop. Over a 30 year period you are looking at somewhere around $10.00 per month to power all that and with batteries you can do it, "when the sun doesn't shine" http://www.costco.com/Coleman-260-Watt-Solar-Kit.product.11671549.html When this is available, why would anyone pay some crony company $100.00 a month when you can get the same energy for $10.00 a month? And more reliable at that! Make no mistake about it, your utility bill is about to triple to pay for the energy sprawl in the desert on our public lands.
TMcC March 22, 2013 at 07:01 pm
How about the CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSIONERS?
Their UNANIMOUS vote yesterday said that…Read More for years to come the 5 commissioners are satisfied that need is NOT lacking, nor could they justify what was an attempted QUICK-GRAB of $1.5 BILLION ratepayer dollars for new gas power plants.
The attempt at that premature-grab by SDGE's application that purported need at such a blown-up scale, is a HUGE RED FLAG. It says plenty about the applicant, SDGE, and their energy industry partners (aka referred to as "stakeholders" to the CPUC). It would be bananas not to pay focused attention to that!
The CEC is NOT in the power-need-decision business, from what I understand, nor in the autocratic-local-rezoning-decision business.

I have been to Boil Weevil 3 times since they opened. ALL 3 times the food was average to poor,…Read More service was horrible, missing part of order 2 of the times and the decor stinks. The bar portion is a joke, who designed this Boil Weevil? Obviously, they have never seen any other Boil Weevils. A huge disappointment that there was NO Pool tables. This place is just TOO small. This is not Boil Weevil, it's not even a good imposter of Boil Weevil. I predict this restaurant closing within a year.
We have too many restaurants in Santee and it shows by some of them closing after a short life span. Santee just can't support all of these restaurants and WAY TOO MANY Fast Food places.
Charlie Ringer May 13, 2013 at 11:20 pm
Back in the day at the old Boll Weevil we would stop by occasionally for a steer burger I saw the…Read More banners flying for the new Boll Weevil's and bit .
I went in ,it was 4:30 and not busy yet.I was almost shocked at the decorating ,color scheme, tables and strange cold atmosphere. But maybe the Steer Burgers would make up for the first impression, wrong. I ordered a medium burger it came out rare , sent it back to grill some more .The burger came back medium ,and any moisture in the beef must had escaped to the soggy bun. I requested a new bun and received one. This was just too much to deal with to get a burger .
Management had better look at what the public is demanding for their food dollar .
For this restaurant to succeed change is needed already.

If Grossmont was allowed to stop treating illegal immigrants then American Citizens could be seen…Read More and treated in a reasonable amount of time.
It's a shame that those who pay a fortune for Insurance are treated no better then the Illegal Immigrants who get treated for FREE.
When are we going to stop using Tax Payers money for illegals? The U.S, is getting to be known as a Welfare Country for all illegals in the world.
