Operated by DehesaMore Charter School, the Santee Learning Center serves K-3 home-school students based on a Montessori Learning Center program.

Montessori classrooms are multi-aged, and this school's classrooms will have grades 1-3 together. 

"The Montessori environment is one that is student centered, students help each other, and students choose materials and subjects of interests," said Director of Academic Planning Roland Yung. "Montessori education truly teaches lifelong learning as students stimulus and motivation from learning is developed internally," he said.

Students attend the Learning Center Monday through Thursday, and may complete their Independent Study work on-site on Fridays, if they prefer. Grades 4 and 5 plan to be added for the 2013-2014 school year. 

Students participate in a variety of hands-on projects including gardening, model construction, community service, field trips, and more. In line with Montessori philosophy, the development of the whole child is considered and students will be encouraged to become independent learners with a strong sense of communal responsibility. 

As a public charter school, all students that apply to Dehesa Charter School are eligible for acceptance based on enrollment openings.

Art with Larisse is a business that offers art classes to adults and children. There are six different art teachers whoMore work with students to help them with individual art projects in order to achieve their individual goals. This is a hands-on experience with passionate teachers, perfect for any level art student. Each class is one hour and 15 minutes and costs $18.
