Former Santee City Employee Chosen as El Cajon City Manager

Santee's former deputy city manager/development services director was announced as City Manager of neighboring El Cajon.

Southern California Association of Governments Deputy Executive Director Douglas Williford was unanimously chosen Tuesday by the El Cajon City Council as its city manager.

Williford earlier worked in El Cajon's Planning Department and as Santee's deputy city manager/development services director.

"The City Council and I were highly impressed with Doug's leadership skills, pro-development experience, knowledge and insight into the key issues facing the city of El Cajon, and expertise in economic development," Mayor Mark Lewis said.

Williford was among 64 candidates for the position. He will begin his duties on March 22 and be paid $219,500 per year.

"I am grateful for this unique opportunity and look forward to returning to El Cajon to work with the City Council, city staff and the community in moving El Cajon forward in an exciting direction," Williford said.
