Firefighters Extinguish Blaze on Prospect Avenue in Santee

The fire blackened brush and damaged a residence, a garage and several vehicles Friday afternoon.

A fire of unknown origin blackened brush and damaged a residence, a garage and several vehicles Friday afternoon on an industrial property just north of Gillespie Field airport on Prospect Avenue.

The blaze in the 10500 block of Prospect Avenue in Santee began spreading about 3:30 p.m. and was under control at about 4:35 p.m., according to Heartland Fire & Rescue.

The flames apparently erupted in a pile or container of rubbish, said Sonny Saghera, a spokesman for the emergency-services agency. The cause was not immediately clear.

10News reported that several propane tanks exploded, and that the fire originated in a tire shop. UT San Diego reported that trailers on the property had burned.

Conflicting information about injuries are being reported. Saghera said there were no injuries, while UT San Diego reported that one firefighter was taken to a hospital for heat related treatment.
