Cal Fire Quickly Extinquishes 6-Acre Fire Near Lakeside

The fire briefly threatened homes, and backed up traffic on I-8 in both directions at midday Saturday.

Firefighters stopped a freeway-side brush fire at about six acres on the southern side of Interstate 8 outside of El Cajon Saturday, but not before it threatened residences and snarled freeway traffic, authorities said.

The fire on I-8 near Los Coches Road was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Nick Schuler. No injuries were reported.

The fire briefly threatened homes on Lotus Lane and La Cresta Road before it was stopped, according to Cal Fire officials.

Eastbound freeway traffic was backed up to Greenfield Drive in El Cajon, and westbound traffic to Los Coches Road in the unincorporated Lakeside area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Cal Fire officials said.
