Update: Santee Man Ejected, Killed in Highway 52 Crash

The driver has been identified as 28-year-old Sergio Joseph Dyda.

A 28-year-old Santee man has been identified as the person killed in an early morning crash on Highway 52.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office has identified Sergio Joseph Dyda, who lived in Santee with his mother and siblings, as the person killed early Sunday on Highway 52 after losing control of a vehicle and crashing.

The incident occurred at 4:46 a.m. on westbound Highway 52 just east of Santo Road.

"A Subaru Outback was going at a high rate of speed, and the driver lost control and slid across other lanes, crashing into the center divider," CHP Sgt. Connie Lloyd said. "The vehicle then veered across traffic lanes to the right side of the freeway and hit the right-hand rail, ejecting the driver."

Lloyd said the driverless vehicle then continued about a mile down the freeway until it came to rest at the off-ramp to Santo Road.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Heartland paramedics.

Freeway lanes were closed for a couple of hours but had been reopened by 9 a.m.
