Hiker Stricken By Heat Has to Be Rescued Near Lakeside

Another hiker had to be taken in for treatment at Mission Trails park.

Two hikers suffering from the heat were airlifted and taken to hospitals for treatment, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue dispatcher, though their injuries were not concidered life-threatening.

The dispatcher said the heat-related incidents occurred at 10:40 a.m. at Cowles Mountain and 10:50 a.m. at Iron Mountain.

Cowles Mountain is in Mission Trails Regional Park while Iron Mountain is off Highway 67 between Lakeside and Poway. Helicopters arrived to take the victims to the bottom of the mountains, where ambulances took them on to hospitals.

The Iron Mountain hiker was female, the dispatcher said. No information was available on the other hiker.
