Authorities asked the public Wednesday for help in identifying a gunman who opened fire on a pair of rivals in front of an East County market, missing them but wounding a woman who had just pulled up in an SUV along with her young child, two other mothers and their youngsters.

The gunman was described as a black male adult, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, striped gloves, black shorts and red high top converse tennis shoes (see photos).

San Diego County Crime Stoppers and investigators from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department’s Santee Station are asking for assistance from the public to help identify and locate the suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon.

The suspect was seen arguing with two men in front of the market, according to authorities. The suspect walked into the market and immediately walked out to continue the argument. Once outside and after he passed the two black men in the parking lot, he pulled a semi-automatic handgun from his sweatshirt. Police said he walked across the street but continued to argue with the men.

As the argument was occurring between the three men, a white Ford Expedition that contained three adult women and three young children, parked next to the white car that was driven by the two men. The suspect, who was still across the street, fired numerous rounds, from his handgun, at the two men. All of the rounds missed the men but one round struck a female passenger inside the Ford Expedition. Several other rounds almost hit the children in the back seat of the SUV, according to the Crimestoppers press release.

The suspect was last seen running eastbound on East Bradley Ave. The two male victims, who were the intended targets in the shooting, also left the scene and have not been identified.

Anyone with information on the identity and/or location of the suspect and victims is advised to call the Santee Sheriff’s Station at (619) 956-4000 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in this case.
