• A Rancho San Diego man is facing life in prison after being convicted of seriously injuring his wife by planting a pipe bomb in her truck. Fifty-year- old Larry Hoagland is scheduled to be sentenced on June 5th. Authorities say he wanted to run off with another woman.

• A woman whose two pit bulls attacked her 75-year-old next-door neighbor in Paradise Hills, leading to the victim's death six months later, has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. Twenty-year-old Carla Cornelio faces four years and eight months behind bars if convicted in the death last Christmas Eve of Emako Mendoza. Her mother is also charged in the case, but she's in the hospital being treated for leukemia, so her arraignment has been postponed.

Tobacco-Free Schools

The San Diego County Office of Education is receiving $22,500 in state funds to enforce tobacco-free school policies. The money also is expected to be used to collect data on tobacco use and other behaviors that put students' health at risk.

Gas Price

A six-day streak of increases ended Monday when the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County fell two-tenths of a cent to $4.219.

The average price rose 4.6 cents during the streak, including four- tenths of a cent on Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
