The Great Escape: Restaurant Rendezvous

Enjoy your mommy-free escape with worldly cuisine at the Japanese inspired Okawa Steak House and Sushi.

When was the last time you actually had a date night? If you have to remember, it’s been too long.

Valentine’s Day is on the horizon, coming up Monday, Feb. 14. Often, motivation to participate in “date night” on a Monday is dreary, to say the least. We’re suggesting a fun and exciting Monday evening, that will start your mom-week off on the right foot.

Escape away to on 9720 Mission Gorge Road, Ste. D. Japaneses cuisine and sake: how could a date night be better?

Unique outings and date nights are encouraged to increase the success of a relationship. According to Arthur Aron, a professor of psychology who spoke to the New York Times, “date night” is about reinvention. Doing the same old thing every couple of weeks can create stability and safety, but to renew that love commitment to yourself and your partner, the goal is to “keep injecting novelty” into date night events.

Okawa Steak House and Sushi offers the best in Santee exotic cuisine. With active and entertaining chefs, Okawa offers a wide array of sushi as well as hibachi grilling, which is a teriaki merinade on steak, chicken, filet minion, scallops, calimari, and vegetables.

Happy hour is everyday, including 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, and beverages like six different types of sake, Japanese beer (Saporo, Kirin), as well as a white and red wine list are offered. With an elegant and romantic atmosphere, their signature dish is the “Dancing Lobster Roll” as well as appetizer soups like Miso and Hibachi, including chicken/beef broth with mushrooms, scallions, and onions.

Sushi is an excellent source of protein, as well as a low-fat way to encourage date night. With all that Okawa has to offer, this will certainly be a Valentine’s date night to remember.

Share your tales of love and loss with anyone close to you over sake and sushi, everyone has a "love" story and they usually involve a good laugh. Escape away for a little taste of Japan and some good conversation. It'll be the best thing you, as a mom, do for you, as a woman.

I have looked at their menu displayed on their front window and as much as it looks like a great selection, it is very pricey for Santee and my budget. I have noticed that there never are very many customers in the restaurant, so maybe they will consider lowering their prices, so more Santee residents could afford to go.

I love Okawa! Great food, fun atmosphere! I have been a Benihana fan for a long time but always hated going to mission valley so I was excited to have the same type of restaurant right here in Santee and the prices are a little cheaper than Benihana too.
