FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

EXPLORE NATURAL HISTORY AND MORE

Where/When: The Heritage of the Americas Museum at Cuyamaca College is open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5.

Why Go: Dioramas! Fossils! Duckbill dinosaur eggs! Lots of stuff your budding Indiana Jones will love to look at and learn about. Low, low ticket prices for moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas.

Pricing: $3 for adults, $2 for seniors age 55 and older. And the kiddies? Free!

Where/When: At the Kroc Community Center on University Avenue on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Feb. 2 and Feb. 4-7.

Why Go: The NHL-regulation size Ice Arena and wintertime fun in San Diego, plus $5 Wednesday Nights and $7 Sundays. Open skating hours are 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday; 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday; 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday; 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday; and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Pricing: $9 Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday; $5 Wednesday Nights; $7 Sundays. Admission includes skate rental. Groups of 10 or more can get a discount rate of $7 per person including skates on Monday, Wednesday during the day, Friday and Saturday with a two-day advance reservation.

Where/When: Barnes & Noble, 9938 Mission Gorge Rd. in Santee at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4.

Why Go: Dress the kiddies up in their onesies and stocking caps to hear tales of daring-do and epic adventure.

Pricing: Free!

LEARN TO TRACK WILDLIFE

Where/When: Mission Trails Regional Park in the San Carlos area on Saturday, Feb. 5, and Sunday, Feb. 6.

Why Go: Beautiful surroundings, fresh air and lots of fun for all ages. A trail guide will lead a tracking walk at 8:30 a.m. Saturday that will teach participants how to recognize wildlife tracks and there’s an easy guided nature walk that starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Wear long pants for kneeling in the dirt, bring sunscreen and hats. Rain cancels.

Pricing: Free!

LIVE GUITAR MUSIC        

Where/when: The Knox House Museum in El Cajon from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4.

Why Go: A little soothing guitar music is never a bad thing before bedtime. Hosted by the El Cajon Historical Society, which would like to note that the museum does not offer public restrooms.

Pricing: Free, but donations are welcome.
