Consumer Alert: Sharp Offers Free Health Screenings in Santee

Beginning Saturday, and continuing through September, people can have their blood pressure and other important measures of health, recorded free of charge.

Sharp HealthCare will host a variety of free health screenings throughout the county, including Santee, in hopes of arming 5,000 San Diegans with information about their blood pressure, and blood sugar and cholesterol levels, reports KPBS.

Santee will host the screenings beginning Saturday June 15 at the Library, 9225 Carlton Hills Blvd. Health professionals will be available to test people from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The screenings will continue at the library throughout the summer, mostly on
Fridays and Saturdays. All times are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. unless otherwise noted:

  • Saturday June 15
  • Friday June 28
  • Friday July 26
  • Saturday July 27
  • Saturday Aug. 10
  • Monday Aug. 12, 2-6 p.m.
  • Thursday Sept. 12, 2-6 p.m.
  • Friday Sept. 13

For listings of the 60 sites throughout San Diego County where testing is to take place, see Sharp's website.

The screenings, according to KPBS, will take about 15 minutes and include questions about health histories, a brief pin prick to draw blood and a weigh in. Sharp offered the service in-house and 10,000 employees opted to participate.

It is estimated, KPBS reports, that $340 billion is spent each year to combat the health effects of obesity and high blood pressure.

Sharp's screenings, according to president and CEO Mike Murphy, may drive consumers who “need to be held  accountable to their healthcare choices.”
