The developer the hotly contested Castlerock Project, which would bring about 1,000 residents, new land, and a new community to Santee, paid $183,000 to the downtown lobbying firm Sheppard Mullin to help secure approval for a list of projects, with Castlerock topping the list, according to a report published in the San Diego Reader.

Matt Potter's Under the Radar column lists seven projects for which Pardee Homes enlisted the help of the firm.

Of interest to readers curious about other building and development in Santee, such as Fanita Ranch, is this quote from the post: "...Sheppard Mullin lobbyists also mounted 'opposition to development of adjoining properties where development is adverse to Castlerock.' "

You mean to tell me that Castlerock was being pimped to the residence of Santee under the faux need for "affordable housing" and turned out to be a lie? So what are you going to do Santee? Let King Vopel and his court of jerks - off the hook as they bought AND sold you all? Remember this between 6:30 to 9am when you're stuck in your car for "progress!"

What was Santee supposed to do with San Diego's project?
Doug Curlee December 11, 2013 at 06:38 PM
so they hired a lobbying firm to help get their story across?..sorry, but my reaction to that is, "..so what?.."..doug
just my opinion December 12, 2013 at 12:36 AM
Please remember this at election time.

Glad to see Doug has the memory of a goldfish. I'll remind you that this project was "sold" under the rouse of the need for affordable housing in "La Jolla est." So you are ok with being bold faced lied to? Instead of "patching" why don't you ask the city council what they received from these lobbyists? Unless that's too much journalistic integrity to expect from you...?

sheeple..I have a very good memory.. and I don't recall anyone saying this was to be a totally affordable housing development..there is an affordable housing element in it, as required by law..i seriously doubt any council member received a dime from the developers..that would be far too easy to track and prove..doug
