Photos: Lantern Crest Senior Living "Dusty Boots" Sneak Peak

Take a photo tour of what will soon be Santee's newest senior living center.

The first sneak peak, a "dusty boots" tour of the first phase of what will soon be a state-of-the-art senior living center near Prospect Avenue in Santee, took place last week.

The first building constructed at , an 80-unit complex scheduled to open in April, is designed for those that need Assisted Living and Memory Care, and even in the phase it is looking like a resort-style environment.

About 150 people toured the first phase, including Councilmember , Warren Savage with , and even officials, mingled and munched on some appetizers while listening to Lantern Crest representatives talk about their philosophy of senior living.

Getting up to the site for the first time you are treated to a wonderful view of Gillespie Field, El Cajon and Santee- personally, a view I like even better than the sight from . The building includes a spacious movie/TV viewing room, a cozy shared dining room and courtyard and a beautiful community room and balcony looking right out to Gillespie Field.

And, if you liked what you saw, you could reserve a spot at Lantern Crest right on the tour.

Though the inside of the building was still rough and under construction, all signs point to the rise of a senior living center unlike any in Santee at the moment.

When totally completed, the community of Lantern Crest will stretch around the hill it sits on and feature a over 400 apartments.

The details what the apartments will feature: "Residents may opt for studio and one-bedroom apartments, each with private bathrooms and individual climate control to ensure their personal comfort. Residents maintain independence, but Assisted Living services are there when needed."

"Lantern Crest will provide a wide range of services and activities for residents. Finally relieved of housekeeping, home repair and meal preparation, residents will enjoy stimulating activities that provide social, educational, religious and recreational opportunities. Choices will include community outings, musical programs, games, cards, gardening, painting, sewing, and much more.
