Santee Residents Can Earn Rewards for Curbside Recycling

Now Santee residents can earn coupon rewards for the recycling they're already putting out for curbside pickup.

Waste Management of San Diego and the City of Santee recently announced the launch of a new rewards-for-recycling program from Recyclebank, in the City of Santee. Santee is the first Waste Management served city in San Diego County to launch the Recyclebank program that rewards people for taking everyday green actions with discounts and deals.  

Brought to Santee by Waste Management, residents have the opportunity to earn everyday savings while helping the environment and contributing to a more sustainable future.

“Santee is pleased to be the first city in San Diego County to offer this new recycling incentive program,” said Mayor Randy Voepel.

“By increasing the city’s total volume of recycling, citizens can help boost revenue and keep our taxes as low as possible.”

“We were thrilled to connect Santee residents to extra rewards for their everyday green actions,” said Eloisa Orozco spokesperson for Waste Management of Southern California.

“Because we are in the business of recycling services, it gives us great pleasure to bring this incentive-based program to our customers who through recycling are helping to conserve precious natural resources and promote sustainable behavior.”   

Earlier this month, Santee residents received an introduction letter, which outlined the benefits of the program as well as signup instructions. To participate in the Recyclebank program and begin earning points for recycling at home, residents must first register for a free account at recyclebank.com/WM and verify their home address. Once a Recyclebank member, residents earn points each time they recycle.

Each time a neighborhood’s recycling is collected, the weight of the collected material is converted to Recyclebank Points. Those who are Recyclebank members will automatically receive their share of the points for their recycling efforts. Residents can also earn bonus points each week when they report their recycling efforts on the Recyclebank website or on the Recyclebank iPhone and Android mobile apps.

“At Recyclebank, we believe that individual actions toward sustainability can collectively make a huge impact on our environment,” said Lucie Poulicakos, vice president at Recyclebank.

Recyclebank is similar to a frequent flyer program, only members earn points each time they recycle. Members earn Recyclebank Points each time they recycle, which they can use to redeem discounts and deals from hundreds of locally-based businesses and national brands. Some program launch rewards partners include Ziploc, Coca-Cola, Unilever, and many others. Over the course of a year, an average member can earn hundreds of points that can be redeemed for special rewards, translating into real value — more than $165 annually.

"Recyclebank is a great program for Santee residents to get coupons and discounts for doing the same thing they have been doing for years — recycling,” added Orozco.

“Waste Management already makes recycling easy through our curbside recycling program.  And now, recycling is even more rewarding for Santee families because the more they recycle, the more reward points they can earn.”
