Burglaries and Vandalism Hit Rio Seco School In Last Few Months

Three theft and vandalism cases since March have cost the school more than $15,000.

Rio Seco Elementary School in Santee has been hit by a number of burglary and vandalism incidents this spring, including the latest theft of a PA system and other items estimated to cost the school $5,000, according to the Sheriff's Department and 10News.

10News reported that some of the items recently stolen are needed for graduations and end-of-the-year events, but the school has been helped by other organizations that have lent them equipment.

The most recent burglary, reported May 29, followed vandalism of the school ball field in March and a similar incident earlier in May when sports equipment valued at $10,000 was stolen.

"Our funds are limited and to have to replace something, that's really frustrating," Vice Principal Jim Rosa told 10News.
