Daily Dose: Alpine Rescue

A woman stuck in a 12-foot hole while hiking is rescued, and your very own water district board is meeting.

• A woman was rescued from a 12-foot deep hole off of a dirt road in Alpine Monday night, according to a report by City News Service.

She was walking her dogs on a road at the edge of Alpine and the wilderness, about a mile from her car parked at the end of Anderson Road. She walked about a mile, when she dropped her cell phone in the deep hole and went in to get it, according to authorities.

She was unable to get back out of the hole at that point. She called police, who were able to determine her location from her cell phone. They were told to look for her car, and then her two dogs and water bottle near the entrance of the hole.

She was then retrieved safely with a ladder, only "thirsty and scared," said Sheriff's deputies.
