Mission Trails Bicyclist Rescued by Helicopter

A man in airlifted from a trail to a hospital.

A man who fell from his bicycle and seriously injured his shoulder while riding on a hiking trail in Mission Trails Regional Park was hospitalized Saturday after being rescued by paramedics and a San Diego Fire Department helicopter crew.

"He fell off his bike near the entrance to the trail about 7:30 a.m.," said a San Diego Fire dispatcher.

The unidentified man was too far from the trailhead to be carried out by a stretcher, according to fire crews who entered the park from the east end of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.

"A helicopter was called in," the dispatcher said.

The man was taken to De Portola Elementary School at 11010 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. where an ambulance crew was waiting. He was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital.

The injuries were not-critical, though he was reported to be in a lot of pain.
