Adult Arrests on the Rise in Santee, Youth Arrests Down 55 Percent

1,431 total arrests were made in Santee last year, a 54 percent rise in arrests since 2009.

Arrest rates in Santee were on the rise last year, contrasting a countywide trend with arrest rates at a 10-year low, the San Diego Association of Governments reported this week.

According to the report, 33.6 residents per 1,000 in Santee were booked for a crime in 2012, compared to 28.2 per thousand in 2008- an increase of 19 percent. 1,431 total arrests were made in Santee last year, a 54 percent rise in arrests since 2009.

The rate of felony arrests was up 40 percent in Santee over those four years, at 11.5 arrests per 1,000 residents.

Juvenile arrests saw a significant drop of 55 percent between 2008 and 2012, with 176 juveniles age 10-17 in Santee being booked for a crime last year.

A separate SANDAG report says that spending by the county and cities in the San Diego region on public safety last year was 6 percent lower than in 2008. Combined, $1.787 billion was spent on public safety in the 2012-13 fiscal year in San Diego County.
