A 41-year-old man allegedly , slightly injuring the deputy, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

A Santee sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a white Honda with false registration just before 3 p.m. Friday in the 10000 block of Mission Gorge Road, according to Sgt. Curt Goldberg.

The Honda's driver initially yielded in the parking lot of the Roadway Inn, at 10135 Mission Gorge Road, but as the deputy got out of his car, the Honda's driver, identified as Jerry Wright, 41, reversed and rammed the patrol car, Goldberg said.

The impact caused the patrol car's open door against the deputy, which caused minor injuries, Goldberg said.

Wright then allegedly sped off to the east on Mission Gorge Road but drove over a fire hydrant, and the deputy again pulled up behind him, Goldberg said.

Wright jumped out of the car and ran into the parking lot to several nearby mechanic businesses, Goldberg said.

The deputy gave chase and with the help of several bystanders, cornered Wright between parked cars, but he refused to follow the deputy's instruction to get on the ground. He was tackled and arrested, Goldberg said.

A subsequent search of the Honda turned up more than an ounce of methamphetamine, Goldberg said.

Wright complained of chest pains and was taken to an area hospital, and after his release, was booked into jail for suspicion of felony assault on a deputy and possession of a controlled substance, Goldberg said.

The deputy was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Goldberg said.
