Santee Crime Report: Credit Fraud, Burglary and Grand Theft

The following information was provided by the Santee Sheriff's Department and CrimeMapping.com mainly for May 9 to May 15. The defendants have not been convicted of a crime.

Santee Patch has started publishing a , a less detailed list of alleged Santee offenders, the Weekly Report focuses on incidents of interest with detailed reports.

Incidents of interest:

• Richard Tafoya, 54, was arrested following a fraud complaint in the 10000 block of Woodside Avenue on the afternoon of May 9. The victim, 61, reported a credit loss, according to a report. Tafoya was arrested on suspicion of obtaining credit using another person's identification, after authorities obtained a warrant, according to a report.

He was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego. Jail records show Tafoya is currently being held in connection with 16 counts of ID theft at George Bailey Detention Facility in San Diego. Bail is set at $500,000.  He faces additional allegations of burglary and grand theft. Tafoya is schedule to appear in San Diego County Superior Court in El Cajon on June 23.

• Twenty DVDs valued at $522 were reported stolen by the in the 9700 block of Lorraine Way on the afternoon of May 11. No suspect information was listed.

• A 39-year-old man was arrested after allegedly being found in possession of multiple ID cards and illegal drugs in the 10000 block of Woodside Avenue on the morning of April 26. Richard David Obrian, was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego on three felony allegations, possessing the identification of ten or more people with intent to defraud, possessing controlled substances of sale, and possessing controlled substances. A computer reported as stolen was recovered in the case, according to a report. Jail records show he is being held on $40,000 bail, in addition to a parole hold issued by the state of Pennsylvania. No court date is
scheduled.

• A juvenile was arrested after a report of a suspicious person in the 9300 block of Heiting Way during the early morning hours of May 15. The suspect was picked up on an outstanding juvenile warrant, the nature of which was not detailed, and transported to Juvenile Hall without incident.

• A juvenile was arrested after being stopped shortly after midnight May 14 at the intersection of Amino Leticia drives. The suspect was detained on a curfew violation and the matter is being handled within the juvenile system, according to a report.

• Pamela Knutson, 47, was arrested on suspicion of battery following a complaint in the 11000 block of Woodside Avenue on the evening of May 13. She was booked into the  Las Colinas women's jail. on a misdemeanor.

• A juvenile was turned over to deputies on felony drug and weapons allegations in the 8700 lock of Mast Boulevard on the evening of May 13. The juvenile was detained on suspicion of possessing drugs and possessing a weapon at school. The juvenile's name was not released and the matter is being handled within the juvenile justice system, according to a report.

• Two people in their 40s were arrested after a complaint of trespassing was reported on the evening of May 13 in the 10000 block of Valor Place. Deputies allege both were under the influence of controlled substances, a misdemeanor. Tiffany Schmidt, 40, was booked into the women's jail, while Michael Ervin, 46, was cited and released, according to a report.

• Joan Smith, 52, was arrested on suspicion of burglary at the , 200 Town Center parkway, on the evening of May 13. Miscellaneous items valued at $50 were recovered. She  was booked into the Las Colinas women's jail in Santee.

• A vehicle was reported stolen in the 9800 block of Mission Gorge Road on the evening of May 12. The vehicle, valued at $3,000, was described as a black and yellow two-door sedan. No suspect information was listed.

• A motorcycle and minibike with a total value listed at $5,000 were reported stolen in the 13000 block of Ha-hana Road on the afternoon of May 12. The 30-year-old victim described the stolen items as a red 450MX motorcycle, and a red and orange Brooklyn minibike. No suspect information was listed.

• Sean Bass was arrested on a felony arrest warrant at Los Coches Road and Rodeo Drive on the afternoon of May 12. Bass, 21, was taken into custody on misdemeanor suspicion of resisting arrest, in addition to the arrest warrant. He was booked into the County Jail in downtown San Diego.

• Deputies detained a juvenile on suspicion of petty theft following a complaint by an 18-year-old victim in the 9900 block of north Magnolia Avenue on the morning of May 12. According to a report, $50 cash was stolen and later recovered. The matter is being handled by juvenile authorities.

• A 37-year-old man was arrested following a battery complaint in the 9700 block of Mission Gorge Road on the evening of May 11. Another victim reported about $500 damage to a vehicle, according to a report. The suspect, identified as Manuel Santana, was booked into the County Jail in downtown San Diego on misdemeanor allegations of resisting arrest, vandalism and battery. No serious injuries were reported.

• Cynthia Walker, 30, was arrested following a theft complaint at the in the 9800 block of Mission Gorge Road on the evening of May 11. She was booked into the Las Colinas women's jail in Santee on felony burglary.  An estimated $1,500 in merchandise was reported stolen and later recovered.

• A 21-year-old man was arrested at the in the 9400 block of Mission Gorge Road following a complaint on the evening of May 11. The suspect, identified as Kenny Rogers, was booked into the County Jail in downtown San Diego on suspicion of felony burglary.  About $160 in miscellaneous clothing was allegedly stolen and then recovered.

• employees reported the theft of TVs and a computer on the afternoon May 11 in the 100 block of Town Center parkway. The items were apparently shoplifted, according to a report, and were valued at $1,200. No suspect information was reported.

• A vehicle was reported stolen in the 8600 block of Graves avenue on the afternoon of May 11. The 50-year-old victim described the vehicle as a green, four-door sedan valued at $2,500. No suspect information was reported.

• A 24-year-old man was arrested on a forgery allegation in the 9400 block of Mission Gorge Road on the afternoon of May 11. Marcelo Morales-Balderas, 24, is accused of forging the official seal of the Social Security Administration, according to a report. He was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego.

• Some $800 worth of metal was reported stolen from a machining company on the morning of May 11. The theft was reported in the 8600 block of Argent Street by PM Machining. No suspect information was reported.

• A 44-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal items from the Target in the 9800 block of Mission Gorge Road on the evening of May 10. Allison Kilpela was booked into the Las Colinas women's jail in Santee on suspicion of felony burglary. About $277 in miscellaneous items were recovered.

• Rusty Telford, 45, was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal items from the WalMart in the 100 block of Town Center parkway on the evening of May 10. Authorities reportedly recovered about $48 worth of clothing and liquor. Telford was booked into the County Jail in downtown San Diego on suspicion of felony burglary.

• Two men were arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled substances for sale at Cottonwood Avenue and Mission Gorge road on the morning of May 10. The suspects, identified as Brian Blazen, 29, and Adbeel Juarez, 34, were booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego on the felony allegation.

• The Mission Valley Roofing company reported a burglary in the 9900 block of Prospect Avenue on the evening of May 9. Tools, gasoline and other miscellaneous items with a total value of $4,400 was reported stolen. No suspect information was listed.

• Two juvenile were detained after a shoplifting report was received from the Target in the 9800 block of Mission Gorge road on the afternoon of May 9. The juveniles were not identified in the report and were detained on suspicion of petty theft. Miscellaneous clothing items were recovered valued at $180.

• A juvenile was arrested after deputies investigated a report of a suspicious person in the 9200 block of Lake Country Drive on the afternoon of May 9. The suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of failing to obey the order of a juvenile court and booked into Juvenile Hall.

• A vehicle was reported stolen in the 10000 block of Stanley Court on the morning of May 9. The white, four-door sedan, was valued at $1,500. No suspect information was reported.

• A vehicle valued at $10,000 was reported stolen in the8700 block of Atlas ViewDrive on the morning of May 9. The vehicle was described as a red
van. No suspect information was reported.

• A juvenile was arrested after a battery complaint by a 31-year-old female in the 10000 block of Avanti Avenue on the evening of May 8. The victim was not seriously injured, according to a report. The juvenile, whose name was not released was detained on suspicion of misdemeanor battery and taken into custody for observation.

• A 25-year-old man was arrested on three felony drug allegations after a traffic stop at Winter Gardens Boulevard and Woodside Avenue on the afternoon of May 4. The suspect, identified as Alan Henry, was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego on suspicion of transporting controlled substances, possessing drugs for sale, and possessing narcotic controlled substances.

• Two people  were cited after being stopped in the 9400 block of Wheatlands Court during the early morning hours of May 1. The suspects, identified as Allen Wallace, 43, and Shirean Schmidt, 34, were detained on suspicion of possessing burglary tools and petty theft. Both were released after the citations were issued, according to a report.

• Michael Lipford, 47, was contacted by a deputy after a complaint of a suspicious person in the 9300 block of Mission Gorge Road on the afternoon of April 29. He allegedly was violating a municipal ordinance against soliciting money or goods in a public place and was released after being issued a citation.

• Kenneth Haskin, 28, was cited after a hit-and-run accident resulted in property damage, according to a report. The incident was reported on the morning of March 16 in the 9300 block of Carlton Oaks Drive. The suspect was detained at  Carlton Oaks Drive and east Heaney Circle a short time later, according to a report. He was released after being issued a citation for the misdemeanor allegation.

• Possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, reported on the morning of May 12 at north Woodside avenue and Wheatlands Avenue, morning of May 11 in the 9200 block of Galston Drive.

• Possession of controlled substance, a felony, reported on the afternoon of May 10 in the 9500 block of Cambury drive. Suspect booked into Las Colinas women's jail and also accused of being under influence of controlled substance.

• Residential burglaries or grand thefts from buildings classified as felonies with items stolen valued from $130 to $3758

  •  10000 block of Gem Tree Way on the afternoon   of May 11.
  • 10000 block of Mast boulevard on the afternoon of May 10. Estimated
  • $10,000 worth of furniture and other items in the house reportedly
  • vandalized.
  • 10000 block of Daybreak lane on the morning of May 9.
  • 10000 block of Chantilly court on the morning of April 27.


• Vehicle burglaries with items  stolen valued at less than $400 (petty theft) reported at:

  •  9200 block of Carlton Hills Boulevard on the morning  of May 13.


• Vehicle burglaries with items stolen valued at more than $400 (grand theft) or classified as felonies reported at:

  • 9900 block of Riverwalk Drive on the evening of May 13.
